International Conference On Skilling In Schools 11th April 2014, Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi

CBSE in association with PHD Chamber organized an International Conference on Skilling in Schools on 11th April 2014 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Mr. Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Hon'ble Vice President of India was the Chief Guest and Mr. Vineet Joshi, Chairman, CBSE was the Guest of Honour during the conference.
The conference focused on covering Issues pertaining to opportunities for schools in imparting Vocational Education, challenges in procurement of proper staff for imparting vocational education in schools and understanding the industry perspective for creating linkages between skilling and employability. The conference was well attended by school principals, promoters, directors, skill knowledge providers and industry representatives.

Mr. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India demanded that the government should incorporate skilling and vocational training with its top social and economic national priorities to fill in the youth with skills and faculties that can empower them with employable abilities with emerging and evolving aspirations and expectationsof industry and other similar stake holders.
Mr. Vineet Joshi, Chairman, CBSE indicated that the CBSE would shortly widen and diversify its vocational courses in the field of real estate, construction, retail, automobile and host of other advance areas to serve these growing economic activities.
Other speakers included Mr. Sharad Jaipuria, President, PHD Chamber, H.E. Ms. Gennet Zewide, Ambassador, Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; Ms Ivy Lerner-Frank, First Secretary & Trade Commissioner, Education Team Leader, India InfoCentre, High Commission of Canada; Ms Ramya Venkataraman, Leader, Education Practice, McKinsey and Company;. Mr. Pawan Agrawal, Adviser (Higher Education), Planning Commission; Mr. M.V.V. Prasada Rao , Director (EDUSAT & Vocational Education), CBSE; Mr. Basab Banerjee, Head - Standards & QA, NSDC.
Mr. Amit Gupta, Executive Director, S. ChandGroup emphasized that schools should first encourage attitude towards 'Do it Yourself' among students and the dignity of labour should be a part of school education for which no separate curriculum is required.
